AUSTRALIA: Lake Macquarie psychiatrist reprimanded for using an online dating service to approach a vulnerable patient

A Lake Macquarie psychiatrist has been found guilty of unsatisfactory professional conduct for using an online dating service to approach a vulnerable patient.

The Health Care Complaints Commission took action against Toronto psychiatrist Dr William Douglas Wade over his relationship with a female patient.

The woman had chronic post traumatic stress disorder relating to childhood sexual abuse and borderline personality disorder.

The Commission said the doctor contacted the woman via a dating website, emails, telephone calls and text messages.

The Commission said he also inappropriately touched the women during a dinner date and suggested the pair have a sexual relationship.
