AUSTRALIA: Queensland sex offender busted on online dating sites

THIS week a 52 year old man from Hervey Bay, Queensland was fined after it was identified he had joined online dating site in 2006 and had recently also signed up with Facebook.

Why was he fined?

This man is listed on the Child Protection Offender Register and as part of his conditions, must tell Police within 14 days if he joins a social networking site online.

Although the original offence which put him on the register was not made available in Court, the male is currently serving a requirement to report to Police for a total of 15 years after being convicted of a child sex crime.

He has since pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined $500.

Please remember: If you are a single parent trying out online dating – always take necessary precaution when meeting new people.  Never post images of your children or their names.
