SCAM ALERT: Is your online Date asking for a Background Clearance, Security or Verification ID? READ THIS POST

**Editors note: Updated information about this scam can be found at

**Editors note: We have found this scam to be most prevalent on the dating site  You have been warned!

The most recent scam affecting online daters around the world involves the use of fake background checking websites created by criminals.

Fake profiles created by criminals are contacting victims on dating sites and requesting individuals to obtain “Dating ID’s”, “hookup clearance”, “security clearances” or “criminal background checks” prior to meeting or engaging in online based activities.

Victims are directed by the criminals to obtain these background checks via an official looking website containing stolen logos from government authorities and official brokers.  In most cases the victim will be requested to pay approximately $200 – $500 to obtain a certificate which claims to issued by local authorities.

Once money has been sent to the criminals, they will delete the fake profiles and cease all form of communication.

Anyone who receives a similar type request from their online Date or believes they are a victim of this crime should report this matter to their local authorities.

NEVER, EVER send copies to your Date any of your personal documentation such as drivers licences, passports etc.

UPDATE: The Internet Crime Complaint Center’s (IC3) have recently distributed the following press release:

The IC3 has recently received reports regarding a scam that baits individuals into intimate online conversations and then extorting them for financial gain. The scam was initiated after the victims met someone online, such as on a dating site, and were asked to connect via a specific online social network. Shortly after, the conversations became sexual in nature. Later, victims received text messages, either containing their names, asking if it was them or containing a statement that indicated their names were posted on a particular website. The victims were provided a link to a page on the website that claimed they were a “cheater.” Photos of the victims and their telephone numbers were also posted. There was an option to view and buy the posted conversations for $9. Victims were also given the option to have their names and conversations removed for $99. Some were even told that once the payment was made, the information would be removed within an hour and the website would not allow anyone to post anything pertaining to the victims’ names again. However, reports do not indicate that the information was ever removed.

    Hi all,
Today I have the same story. A girl who I meet her in dating website asked me to add here to my Facebook. Later on she start sending me some messages stating that she want to meet me. The funny thing that she asked me about an gc Id. Never heard about it so she sent me a link with really poor design lol. I told her to give me sometime. I looked around the website and fond the contact number and address in the Phlipins I realised the is something fishy going on there. I mean asking me to meet her in the second day the told me if you want it as fast we can go to the long time with cost of 1250$. Then I start thinking I’m in Australia what the huk an Phlipin website will have the access to a federal information. I came down and ask her to contact me later. She get upset when I told her that is something is not right.
Just be careful website dating is anoing nowadays.

tonnes of pretty girls asking the same crap, i don’t fall for those scams.
one thing to also do is a google photo search, if she’s hot chances are someone is using a model or even porn stars pics to lure suckers i. better stick to lube and free porn lol. If they want to hook up they will, bottom line !

Just told one of them to send me a picture with a timestamp to prove she wasn’t fake and man did I get cursed out. Then she proceeded to attempt to get me to go to a different site. Wtf is wrong with people these days.

I have had this happen to me, four pretty girls in the first 24 hours of being on onenightfriend website have asked for a safety ID. I actually tried to do it but the process seemed not right somehow so I stopped it and investigated and found this site. Thank you everyone for confirming what I suspected. what will the scammers try next.

Same again here. Got contacted by a girl, asked for this shit, I said I’d look into it, even before she sent me the link I got suspicious and searched and found this article. Did what one guy suggested and did an image search for one of the pictures she had… turned out to be Kendra Lust the porn star. Yeah… don’t think she’s in my backwater looking to hook up with a schmuck like me. :p

I got scamed by that dater id mob. I had a girl by the name of Stephanie Jims ask for a dater id. As I was new to this dating I thought it was the go so I started to pay. Every time I payed and thought I had finished there was another step. After sending $15, 000 the girl just disappeared the dater id site disappeared and I was left on my own. On date and no money.

hi my name is wayne and I’ve been a member of be I’ve been scammed 2 or 3 times. All these women ask for my email and cell phone number to send me a link to verify if I’m a convict or a safe guy to be with. they always say they’re on vacation and always have a different area code. sometimes they text me a picture of a different girl. they also say they’re in my area visiting or some kind of b.s. i was wondering if i really need an dating i.d. or a security background check just to meet someone on this website??? or am i just being scammed, besides my prepaid card keeps getting declined anyways.. all the females that took my info are always from another country… so far i haven’t exchanged info with anyone from my hometown.. I’ve wasted so much money already on my prepaid credit card logging into other dating websites.. so can you please tell me whats real or fake, i really wanna know the truth… most of these females claim to be models but i think theyre just prostitutes… so is a online dating i.d. necessary or is it a scam???? they always say the same thing,, “babe”… one girl was asking memoir my email password as well… please reply with all the info i need to know if all of this “personality, background check, or security check is real or not??””” the only women asking are the ones from other countries, i haven’t exchanged info from a women from my city yet,, just chatted!!! how do i know this reply is a scam either?!!!!

So i got scammed on that security dating website.
Girls name was Allison Greenford. Emailed me saying same thing as you guys have been posting, they want to backround check to make sure where not convicts or killers… if texting is not any different. At first when i viewed it i thought it was a scam, then second guessed myself and did it. Boom charged immediately. Then she was trying to convince me to go to the next step to basically get a refund. and yes i was gullible. fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. im just hoping i dont get randomly charged since my cc info was entered. Can anyone answer that for me if they know?

Yep, Yep, Yep…not just guy got scam, woman too. They gave fake websites, indicate operate and a CEO of a natural gas or pipeline company. Website looks they are a big company. But no address. Contact is their cell phone. Don’t you guys know that scammers can buy local phone number even they are physically in Africa. I had talking to a Australia man and a German man, honestly their voice I have no way to match match those photo they posted on the web. Their love letters are the pro on this planet. Ladies, a different guy show off a huge pay check for what they made. Wow really? Made girls fall for them right away. It’s quite scary that the local USA dating website contains that many scammers.

Earlier this evening I received a similar message from someone I’ve been chatting with on FB. I already had a hunch her FB profile was fake to begin with. This request just reconfirmed that hunch. I told her to send me the info so I can look at it. I told her I would look at it tomorrow. She asked why. Felt like a subtle pushy reaction. She let it go. She did ask me to let her know once I set it up. I looked over the instructions, then decided to google “hookup clearance”. I came across the above info.

Hey guys, cant believe i just ran into this site just know, i know im smart and intellegent, but even us can be fooled and tricked if our guard is down. I was contacted by a particular female from a adult dating site called XXXBlackBook. Okay before i go into greater detail, im very young 19, have raging hormones and no patience for slow relationship, bascicly i wanted to get laid asap, so i sign up, free account and all, made my profile appealing. Within a a day, i got hit like 20 times by multiple females. I left my email, so they contacted me their, one asked for me too vote on their model page, the site seemed fishy and so i did back ground check and the site was known for being scam, so i push her away, later got contacted by more, asking for hook-up id or safety id, so i thought it was something i had to do, since they were all asking for one. But i don’t know why i didn’t look into it, im telling you be careful, one chick if it was a chick, was so convincing and such a smooth talker, flirting with me. She told me to sign up for free trail, and i ran into same site as before, however this girl strategically displayed herself as trustworthly by telling me to be careful and no use XXXBlackBook as it was filled with scammers lmao. I told her about the site and she said nothing would happen, etc. I got declined becuase im 19, guess you have to be older, however i did get charged like $3.00 everyday, so i had to cancel card and tell my back i did not approve of the transactions. She said it must of been an error. Told me to get a pre-paid. Okay, guys im 19 and never done online dating and had just gotten a debit card so im new to being an adult. Let me continue, i asked her for a pic before i even decided to register for a site and asked for one with my name, clever chick sent me one, which i would later find on google through image search, with my name on it, place through photoshop. She said she had no papaer so used lipstick. I examined the pic closely and seemed to be lipstick however i remmember the lipstick overlapping her black brawl a bit with out any smudges, i thought it might have been a error by the internet and dismissed my doubt. When i figured how pre-paids work, i still got declined from sites she sent and she sent many, asked me to call bank and so i did they said it was probably not going through becuase of unapproved sites or fraud, i told her this and she said she knows its not the site………….Sorry i forgot to mention she said she was a model and i found out that all girls who contacted me said they were models, part-time models, or dance instructors and models…….I don’t know why i didn’t catch this then……i think it was becuase this chick played her role so well……………She said she worked for Maxim, and later after some how finaly signing up for a sight after being declined, she said i had to get verified by another sign up, and what not, be aware that even if you get declined you will still be charged so make sure to check………….I asked why and blablablabla………….i verified the first sign up and then she said i had to do it again as that is what Maxim wanted, I was getting angry and argued that she sai i only had to do it once, then twice. Regardless i did it again but got declined so much that she asked me to ask my bank to remove fraud protection. I found that suspicious but this BITCH was very flirtatious, and convincing, i asked bank and they were curious why i would wnat to do such a thing………….i told her they said the can’t…………She said she was negotating with Maxim for me and…….so the process became more tedious and asked to set up for BOOKING PROCESS, PAPERWORK, none of which she stated in the begining. At this point i had only spent about $80 thats includung purchasing pre-paid cards, and pre-paid card fees, and signing up for two websies………….So know she said they want me to send $500, she said she was negotaiting with them JUST FOR ME……..BECUASE I WAS 19, so she said she brought it down to $500……I was vey hesitant and sepical, i had a gutt feeling something was wrong, but she said she would secretly help, me becuase she was serious about meeting me and would help with $200, Me being stupid sent the $300 and asked her for her recipt as proof that she hlepd and said she paid someone to send it for her cuz her manager was watching her…..I asked her to proove she worked for Maxim………..she came up with some BS about her contract being confidential………..and that they had the contract and that she could get fired…….etc…….she would get angry and scream at me threaning to just let me deal with them and have to do the FULL process, which was more expensive……………So then she try to calm me down and MAKE-UP………….Everyday asking HOW ARE YOU SWEETIE?

    assurance money?

    Shirley miller (
yea im still asking them what is it

    oh okay

    Shirley miller (
yup ive heard it before but i really dont know how it works.. coz usually the clients are the one whos talking to maxim and not the models

At this point i already knew the truth for about two weeks or more, but back to my story, if you notice the chat, this female is very flirtatious and want to create a positive vibe. she chit chats a bit to get you in a good mood and this was an often this that i noticed and my brain kept trying to warn my dick but yeah i didn’t take action….so after doing this she would say something like

Oh wait babe, i think Maxim is calling me. Then she would give me bad news that i had to sen another $500.00

And these Fuckers are clever becuase this person tried there hardest and from what i can tell im not the first…….Her craft was so well written that she would definatley fool you that she was interest in a relationship and what not even if it was not a scam……….she was just very convincing…………And To top it all off this BITCH was very patient………..this thing spanned over the course of 3 months…………and I lost a total of $1,500.00 to 1,600.00 but more like $1,500.00

After sending 1,000 some BS happened and she said MAXIM some how gave me a Penalty so i had to send another $500

and i forgot to mention i was sending this over money order and to the Philipinies, suspicious i know………I asked her and argued about it but she gave me some BS that that is were MAXIM had their financing and accounting offices……….I did some back ground check and found nothing but did find that Maxim was in Philipines as its an international corporation so, I let it slip by and……….having sent the $1,000.00 I sent the $500.00

The next day or so soon after having sent the $500.00 I did a picture search for fun, and while doing it I remember using this tool before, but don’t know why i didn’t think of this sooner, she has a Facebook profile and used those pics for the search and you know the rest Jodie Gasson was what showed up

After finding out i knew i had lost the money so just dragged the hell out if it for another month to get my money’s worth………….She said i had to send assurance money to MAXIM so it would be $1000 more and when i asked if that was the last step she would say i would have to talk to MAXIM but as soon as id talk to them i would have to do the expensive route, and when i kept bugging her about it she worl snap at me and threaten me to send me to them and have to pay a lot more for our MEET-UP, and later as i was showing that was not going to be threatened she said that they gave her good news and that it would have been the last process…….oh and i forgot to mention that she kept insisiting that all the money was refundable and i would receive it upon our MEET-UP………… Like i previously said i asked her for a pick with my name and she sent on with supposed lip stick on her chest, not what i asked but it looked convincng to my 19 year old mind, im still 19 but feel much wiser than ever before……before i revealed to this thief the truth i asked for one more pic besides the other pics she sent which were fake, and asked for the one i originally asked for and this is what she sent take a look………These scammers have a lot of patience, and i mean a lot…………….So there you go this is my story

Hey, I’ve met a girl from Canada, and I’ve been talking with her, but once she asked me for the Dating Pass ID – and I was so stupid that I have done it, and later we were talking about us, and she was very nice… Then she said that her mobile phone is broken and she needs to buy a new one… She asked me to rent her the needed money, but when I saw the adress from Moneygram from Phillipines (of a man) then I denied to give her that money… But she said it is okay, if I cana’t borrow her that money – she will ask her aunt to do that… We are chatting on Hangouts, and she called me once: she has really Canadian accent of English – but I couldn’t see her face on camera…
Do anybody know if I have to deal with a fake? Did anybody meet a girl, for whom he was coming through that stupid Dating Pass procedure?

Been scammed the last 5 days….i signed up to well hello, shagbook and p.o.f. (plenty of fish)… again it seems the same very nice attractive girls asking me for my email so i can then get pulled in to their way of ‘meeting up with me’.
They dont tell me the whole process of how much it will cost…..last night i tried to send £165 to the phillipines and to type cash pick-up to a CEBUANA LHUILLIER 165GBP Plus a 3.99 fee on top….and to put the name PATRICK TANJENTE whose mobile is 00639362898698
The girl is called ashley flowers and we ended up skyping for nearly 3 hours….she really wanted to get with me….and sit on my face and called me sext beast…..and it seemed great she was helping me as im not great with using computers and the screen on my phone….
When i called her via videophone….it was cancelled….so i couldnt hear her voice or see her at all….but she sent many.different photos of her….naked and in say a bathroom or bedroom or a gym!
It seemed very believable….i cant believe how i got tricked into it….
She said at the beginning to pay a £3 to get a pass and that she did the same the week before…..she said her boyfriend was caught sleeping with her best friens and so she was hurt and joined here for nsa (no strings attached) and just wanted fun…..
Same happened to me recently where a girlfriend was sleeping behind my back…i told her this (i dont know if uts a male or female i was talking to) ..she kept saying luv and said she was from birmingham…as im from the north of uk… all seemed weird when they ask for this amount of money…thats when i start to thing something is fishy/weird

The next time you are chatting with one of these very hot and willing women ask yourself if they couldn’t get laid by walking into a bar and simply asking for it. Now the next time they want you to verify and prove you are not a convict pervert whatever – simply tell they you can’t do that because you are everything they are worried about. You can even tell them that what they are doing is illegal and if they could simple forward their address to you to verify you would be willing to register to their site.

You will find they ignore anything:that you tell them, ignore any question you ask, ignore pretty much anything you type.

The keep telling you how simple this is – only takes minutes – they need to be safe – it’s a script. Somedays I like to play with them only because I know if they are taking the time to send me email -I am taking them away from sending you email.

They have been messaging me for three days now. Every day a different girl. I kept on asking for a picture showing my name wrote down. On the third day (today) they sent me a picture of a naked girl with my name wrote down in fancy writing but not showing the face. I keep winding them up and so far it’s a good way to pass the time while watching tv

    Well guys,
The oldest online awareness tip has always been ‘If it looks to good to be true, it’s probably not true’. I was approached by this gorgeous looking blonde online today everything looked fantastic, and she asked for a background security pass. I said thats weird and started to fill the form. While doing this I looked at the girl, and saw the CC card sign-up and thought Hang on. So I looked up the name of the Security check and typed in scam after it and here I am … Safe and unscammed. Thanks guys but that first line in this comment says it all.

Hi there! My card is often declined while doing the id verification process. Now I have received emails from a so called ”administrator” saying I will be fined and that they will lift a criminal record against me in the FBI. Thing is I have cancelled and deleted all my accounts in dating websites, all payments were up to date. I did get to talk to some ”women” and was interested in meeting up, but the was unable to get the ID.
A week later I receive an email saying that i can’t delete accounts and cancel subscriptions without getting my dater’s pass first, that the process must be completed otherwise a criminal record will be lift against me….any thoughts????

I’ve already encountered different scam before and I never fall even once. One of the sign that something like scam is approaching you is if the girl is asking your email as a means of communicating with them. I always tell them that who the hell use email as means of communicating, it’s old fashioned. I always ask them their IMO or Skype or any app that I could see them live to interact and to prove that they are the same person in the picture. If they refused and still insist email, then it’s a big GOODBYE to them already.

yeah, had it done to me, they will try to charge in future!!, cancel your card when you report it to your cc company, tel them to lock payments on the card you are cancelling (no more will be honoured), get new pin too, in the end, i recovered/stopped payment on about £1000, crafty sods as they are!!.

Most will ask for your credit card information to verify that you’re 18 years of age, and then use it to register you for all kinds of scam sites. Told the girl that using a credit card for identification purposes is against the law. Safe to say she wasn’t happy.

Want to no where I can get a online dating id. Do you do them and how much its doing my head in trying to figure this all out

Hi David, as per our blog article the “dating ID” is a scam created by cybercriminals. Anyone asking you to obtain one of these is only trying to scam you.

I have this going on right now, I used a different email account. I got contacted thru POF, then pics, wants to have sex, then the certificate is text: Honey listen first, It’s process of running a verification and make sure I’m not meeting with someone who is either a convict or offender. It was featured a lot in a media as a way to protect women who are meeting guys for the first time. I’m not trying to be paranoid or anything but I need you to do that for me. If there’s one thing my mum taught me it’s better to be safe than sorry. I just wanna meet the right guy, they will provide you my number as long as you pass their check. I hope you will show me you are serious. If you have nothing to hide then message me back if you interested so i can give the full procedure how to be a member of the site. you don’t have to worry about paying anything about using this method, cause everything about this is free of charge, all you have to do is be a member of the HookUp Membership Certificate before setting anything up for a meeting.

This one name was Aisha, the minute she started emailing me she was gone off of POF, I kinda already knew it was gonna be a scam, did a look up on TinEye of pics she sent but no match, also read carefully, they give themselves away, I said my town and she said from here too but gave different town name…idiots.

I just had one ask me to get an ID. Heres what I did.

I asked, “Would you ask a guy you met in public to get an ID before continuing?”
She replies, “No, of course not.”
So I said, “You’d be OK to meet in public setting then?”
She responds, “I prefer you had an ID.”
I reply, “You admitted you can live without it, so what do you want to do.”
She says, “You need an ID first for my safety. Just so I know you are a trustworthy person.”
I respond, “Then lets go to the police station and I’ll get a background check for you. No way to be more sure I’m trust worthy then that.”

    *My favourite part*

She responds, “I am not a teenager, I do not do silly things like that.”
I respond, “Yet you do just that online with these ID’s… It’s the same exact thing.”
    She replies, “Whatever.”
